My intake of Vee speers the birthday party #35

http://www.veespeers.com/thebirthdayparty/#35

The picture I recreated was Vee Speers, The Birthday Party #35. To create this image I used a plain wall as a background as Vee Speers does for The Birthday Party photo shoot she made. The picture is quite plain and simple by just a girl standing with her back to the camera. With scissors in her hand holding them to the back of her lower back it is like she is hiding something so people can't see what she really is hiding behind her back. The girl may seem quite innocent and harmless from the front but with them not seeing the back of her it may show that she is in fact strong and is capable of more than people think. She may be quite sharp by the points on the scissors. The young girl also may have two sides of her, from the two blades on the scissors and when they collide together they can create harm and will slice people into. On the other hand she may just be excited for her birthday or someone elses birthday as the topic was The Birthday Party.

Depth of field

http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/how-to/tech-explained/536453/depth-of-field-explained

This website explained to me how to use depth of field and what it is. It is now clear what it is and how to use it.

In this picture by Annie Leibovitz ;Life Through A Lens the main focus point in the picture is of Annie.Annie is a sharp figure where as everything else around her is blurred and out of focus. By doing this it takes all the attention to Annie as she stands out the most. It makes me as a viewer see that first and that is what she wants us to see first because it stands out. When everything else being out of focus it draws all your attention
to what is in focus. It is almost like her past has all been blurred out in the picture as the picture is blurred.

lighting

http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/04/15/photography-lighting-take-control-of-natural-light-to-using-flash/

This website contains everything about lighting you would need to know from what lighting gives of a certain mood to how to create shadow effects.

The lighting in this picture was taken from the front but slightly to the right as the shadow was created behind the object but to the left. The light is quite bright but it still gives a mysterious and good effect. The shadow gives it a effect that there is another cross but it is just the shadow on the back ground. It is quite a plan image and there isn't really a great deal of colour involved in this picture just black and white. The main focus on this picture is on the cross as it has a bolder colour and stands out on the white back ground. The shadow effect changes the mood as if you were to change where the camera was the shadow would be a different shape place and size. It's almost as if someone who has died is watching over it, as crosses are normally associated with death and by the shadow being there and it could be gone or larger one minute. I think this is why the mysterious factor of this picture is there because there isn't really a story behind the picture it's just plain and unknowing what the cross could represent in this image or wanting to get across.

focal points

http://www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/focal-point
This link was good as it gave you a plan and simple explanation of what focal point is. It helped me understand it straight away.

In this picture ,which was taken by Annie Leibovitz, the main focus is on the young lady which I presume is of Cinderella as it was from her Disney photo shoot. To create this affect she has made the background quite dark and them made her be in a light blue dress is makes her stand out. It is also the most interesting part of this picture as it is the only visible object with life in it. With the young lady close to the front of the picture it is a main focal point as it is the first thing you see. In this picture another focal point could be the castle in the background because it is in the middle of the picture and is giving a lot of light. The castle almost makes you feel like you want to explore it and find out what is behind the mist. The misty affect gives it the magical and mysterious feel by not all of the castle being seen clearly.

Assignment 3 ,Compositions

http://www.apertureacademy.com/how-to-composition.php
I think this link was a good way of telling the reader what compositions was because, it explained how it is all to the photographer and how they show compositions. It is how people see the world. There is no wrong or right way of using compositions. Composition creates emotion and tells a story about the picture. It attracts the viewer to a particular part of the picture.

This picture is by Vee Speers. The main attractions in the picture are the bird and the young girl. The story I get across from this composition is that the young girl had interest in this bird. She found the bird when it was young or maybe in a egg and had raised the bird up. The bird has alot of trust in the girl as she is being able to hold the bird without it looking scared or panicked in any way. The bird seems at ease with the girl as if they have had a history together. As the back ground is plain white, as is the girls dress the boldest colour is the black from the bird and the slight hint of colour from the girls skin. The bold colour attracts your attention to the bird first. The emotion created in this picture from the composition is caring and trust. Caring from how the young girl isn't trying to harm the bird in anyway and it is free to fly away but it chooses to stay in her safety. The feeling of trust has come from the bird just sitting and feeling secured in the girls palm.

First Analysis

Annie Leibovitz is an American photographer. She was born on October the 2nd, 1949.
In high school, she became interested in art, and began to write and play music. She attended the San Franciso Art Institute, where she studied painting, for a couple years. She continued to develop her photography skills while working various jobs.

Annie's type of work is taking photgraphs of celebrities. There for the picture what I chose fits in as Meryl Streep is a celebrity. Annie was hired by The Walt Disney Campeign to take photos of celebrities in various rolls and scenes for Disney Parks Year Of Dreams.

The photo I chose is quite a simple and plain picture. It is a close up of Meryl the lighting is quite paticalar. There has been shade created on the eyes. There is no shadow in the background which we can see.

I really like this picture because to me it gets across that she is pinching parts of her body that she does'nt like or wishes was'nt there. Meryl's eyes almost seem to tell a story of what she is thinking and what she wants to get across. She has alot of depth to herself and what she wants to tell people. I think this picture is well taken because all of her face is in the picture. Her face is white then with a dark green background its like she wanted to stand out. The only bit of colour on her face is her lips and cheek bones as if they are highlighting her best assets.
